Orthopedic Rehabilitation
This program includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercises, physical agent modalities, manual therapy, gait training, adaptive activities of daily living, orthotics, and prosthetics training.
Pain Management
There are many types of pain as well as numerous causes. Whatever the cause may be, pain can significantly impair a person’s ability to function normally. Physical therapy offers numerous forms of treatment that can help decrease pain. Modalities such as e-stim, (electrical stimulation), ultrasound, and diathermy can help increase circulation, decrease edema, and decrease muscle spasms in which can result in a decrease of pain. Other forms of treatment for pain include exercises, manual therapy, postural education, body mechanics education, and joint mobilization.
Dysphasia Program
This program includes therapeutic oral motor strengthening, food consistency recommendations and training for safe compensatory techniques to improve swallow function and safety.
Cognition improvement
This program includes immediate and recent recall of increasingly complex information and directives, sequencing events, categorizing, and solving hypothetical problems directed to improve the cognitive functions of attention span, memory and thought organization. It also involves indirect therapeutic approaches to enhance residual, cognitive linguistic skills. Modifications of the environment and caregiver education are important aspects of this program.
Wound management
We offer advanced modalities such as electrical stimulation (high voltage pulsed current), ultrasound, and diathermy to promote wound healing where other conventional types of treatment have failed. These modalities may be used to increase blood flow to the affected area, decrease pain and edema (swelling). This can help promote growth of new healthy tissue while decreasing necrotic tissue.
Continence improvement
This program incorporates therapeutic exercises, biofeedback and muscle reeducation through electrical stimulation (e-stim) to strengthen pelvic floor musculature. This treatment protocol enables patient to regain control of their bladder dysfunction and rid themselves of depression, embarrassment, ADL limitations and social isolation that often accompany this malady.
Advanced equipment
Atherton incorporates the latest in state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment with our therapy for greater positive outcomes.
